About the
Rad Bad Beanie Project
Rad Bad Beanies are sent to at-risk
teens—young women and men—learning about their own abililties with the
help of Big City
Mountaineers. The
program provides
positive adult mentoring for more than 250 teens annually, as well as
opportunities to build increased
confidence and a higher sense of self esteem.
Although some loaner gear is
available to these hikers through generous sponsorship, having
one's
own cool, warm, hat to wear, filled with the loving spirit of
the crafter, lends strength + warmth during an adventurous learning
process.
The beanie also serves as a valued memento
from a trip through
a beautiful part of our country,
and from a time of personal growth.
Speaking of support, if
you'd like to make a donation to the project—a hat,
some yarn, or some cash—please click here. Monetary
donations keep the project going and help us ship our gifts across the
country, since everyone involved is a volunteer. If you can send a buck
with your donated beanie, that would help a lot to defray expenses.
BCM is
a 501(c)3 and also accepts donations of cash, time and gear
directly.
We would like to
personally and deeply thank
every volunteer who contributes to the Rad Bad Beanie Project. By gathering many talented
people with a little bit
of extra time, the strength in numbers multiplies into a lot of love
for young people who really appreciate our support.
Namaste,
